CATS SCHOOL YEAR CLASSES

Welcome to Children’s Art Theatre School! For our junior, intermediate, and advanced students, we can’t wait to get back to exciting drama games, hilarious improv exercises, learning stage acting and creation through monologues and scene work. Towards the end of the Winter term, we will be auditioning, casting, and beginning rehearsal for our Spring production! We know our students are going to put on the most spectacular show you’ve ever seen!

Junior Drama (3-6 YEARS)

The focus of the Junior Program is to encourage cooperation and group awareness. The “good” group feeling generated by physical movement and energetic drama activities promotes trust in and sensitivity to others required for social growth. The Junior Drama program is designed to introduce storytelling, pantomime, improvisation, dance, drama and voice. The program culminates in a final performance.

Intermediate Drama (7-11 YEARS)

The intermediate Program is designed to introduce actors to specific techniques in order to develop their mind, voice and body for a confident and honest performance. Improvisation and scripted scene study provide fluency in acting fundamentals like conflict, action and given circumstances. As collaboration is essential to the creation of theatre, students will develop the social skills required to find creative solutions as a member of a team, to confidently give voice to original ideas, and grow respect towards the ideas of their peers. The drama curriculum introduces improvisation, script-writing, comedy, contemporary dance, role playing, mask, mime, voice, dance and physical theatre. The program culminates in a final performance.

Advanced Drama (12-18 YEARS)

The Advanced Program builds on the fundamentals taught in the Intermediate Program to become bold and daring actors. Improvisation plays a strong role in the Advanced Program, allowing actors to follow their instincts and impulses. Character work is introduced, as well as drawing on the life experiences of the actor to share an honest and organic performance. The advanced drama program covers improvisation, script-writing, comedy, classical theatre training techniques, stage combat and musical theatre. The program culminates in a final performance.

Drama School Calendar

Children’s Arts Theatre School could not be more excited to resume in-person classes this September! We are so excited for our (Term 1) Show, which will be introduced at the end of the term. We will be preparing for our June Show, which will be introduced and workshopped in the Winter Term.

  • We have three terms: Fall, Winter and Spring drama sessions

  • The Fall Term is a 10 week drama session + 1 final performance. This term runs from September to December with an end of term introductory production

  • The Winter Term is a 10 week drama session + an open house class. This term runs from January to March. Our spring term year end production is introduced in this term. The winter term focuses on in-depth theatre training and musical theatre fundamentals in preparation for our final performance that commences at the end of our Spring Term in June. There is no performance at the end of the winter term however, we do host an open house invitation to all parents to come and observe the work completed throughout the winter term

  • The Spring Term is a 9 week drama session + 1 dress rehearsal and + 1 final performance. This term runs from April to June. This is a continuation of our winter term. The year end production will be performed at the end of this term, in a professional theatre.
